A part of the problem is that White folk largely don't recognize when they are in spaces without people of color AND this particular group of White folk believe themselves qualified to legislate for the needs of those people that they don't even recognize that theydo no not have consistent contact/relationship with.
This is how someone can go a long whole election season chanting "Make America Great Again" and not take a moment to acknowledge or even recognize that the American Greatness that they are truly envisioning is void of people who are ethnically, racially, religiously different than them. Some White folk are shook. Quite literally shook by the current state of things. They had no idea that everyone.. every. single. human being in this country has some internalized pocket of racism and White supremacy within them.
Racism and White Supremacy is so pervasive in this country that people of color have also been conditioned to internalize it and utilize it against themselves. The same thing goes for women and misogyny. Queer folk and heteronormativity... (Discussions for a later date) - This goes out to the folks who want to jump in my comments and mention the POC/Marginalized Folk who voted Trump- (Gone Nah)
So what's next... how do we fix this...
Well, White folks gotta look up and speak up. Why do I say this... because it will likely be politically, socially, financially, emotionally, physically dangerous for us marginalized folks to do it. Y'all gotta do the work. If you love us like you say you do... get to work.
Yes. Thanks for this, MoJo. So what you are essentially pleading for from our dominant majority culture friends is to please use their privilege wisely. Be knowingly intentional in every sphere of their lives-socially, politically, financially, spiritually!
